Nothing too fancy here…This is a rather simple build that will be featured on my upcoming Surf Fishing Cart Build.
In addition to my goal of integrating the sheath into the bait station of my cart, I wanted a sheath that resisted the elements while also securely holding the knife.
Materials Needed
- 3/4” PVC
Step 1: Cut A Length of PVC
You don’t have to use 3/4” PVC. Just a piece that when flattened will fit your knife.
Step 2:
Hear the PVC in a toaster ove a 300deg until it becomes malleable.
You could also use a heat gun. It just may take longer to heat evenly.
Step 3: Form the Sheath
Using heat resistant gloves, remove the PVC and insert the knife to form the PVC around it.
The best way to do this is using a foam material to form the shape while adding weight to hold the form in place.
My makeshift solution was to place heavy pavers on top of a thick yoga mat the sheath was sandwiched between.
Step 4a: Trim the Excess
If using as a standalone sheath, hold the sheath up to the light to see the location of the blade.
Using a bandsaw of jigsaw, cut out the excess to have a traditionally shaped sheath.
You can then use pop rivets to hold together the cut sections.
Step 4b: Leave the Excess
In my case, I won’t the excess to aid in the attachment to my surf fishing cart.
