Whether you are fletching your arrows from bare shaft or just repairing fletching after hours of shooting, its a good idea to know how to fletch your own arrows.
Not only will it save you some money, it gives you an opportunity to give your arrows a custom-look.
Materials Needed
- Bitzenburger Fletching Jig
- Bohning Blazer Vanes (2 different colors)
- Arrow Wraps (optional)
- Gorilla Super Glue
- Vegetable Peeler
- Abrasive Pad
- Rubbing Alcohol
Step 1: Remove Old Vanes
Using a vegetable peeler, carefully remove the remaining vanes and glue residue, paying careful attention not to cut into the carbon shaft.
With the majority of the fletching removed, use an abrasive pad to remove any removing residue.
Finally, clean with some rubbing alcohol.
Step 2: Adjust the Orientation of the Jig
Depending on your desired fletching pattern, adjust the set screw of the Bitzenburger jig. I fletch my arrows, 3 vane at 120 degrees.
Step 3: Place the First Vane
You want to place your index vane in a different color so you are alway orienting the arrow the same way. If you don’t want to use a different color, when you tune your arrow, just mark the index vane with a sharpie.
Place some super glue on the vane and firmly use the jig to place the vane.
If you want to add a more customized look, you can add an arrow wrap prior to placing the first vane.
Step 4: Place Remaining Vanes
Rotating the jig, place the remaining vanes.
Step 5: Secure the Vane Edges
Place a dot of super glue on the end connection point of each vane.
