I know what the hardcore hunters are going to say, “I don’t eat when I’m in the stand”. But, the truth of the matter is, the more comfortable you are, the more likely you are going to stay seated in the tree stand.
I wanted to walkthrough my tactics for eating in the stand…and since I’m often on a low-carb diet, I’ll share some of my favorite treestand snacks as well.
Tip #1: Ditch Pre-packed Plastic for Cotton
The crumpling of prepackaged plastic and paper is the bane of anyone trying to snack in the tree stand. I’ve found the best way to quiet the plastic and paper is to ditch it entirely.
I opt to remove my packaged goods and put them in muslin bags. The bags are completely silent and easily washed.
Tip #2: Buy a Baby Cooler
I actually was turned on to this idea after my mother bought me a “tactical baby bag” when I became a father. The company makes a PAL compatible soft cooler that is meant for baby bottles, but is the perfect size for attaching to my Eberlestock H1 Bandit.
Tip #3: Quickly Fill Your Reservoir from a Water Bottle
Most folks know about the utility (and quietness) of a water bladder in your hunting pack. Few folks realize that the bladder can quickly be filled using the Source Hydration Bladder attachment.
All you need to do is attach it to a standard water bottle and hold it over your head to fill up your bladder.
