On most hunts, I’m happy not to even have a phone as I think it distracts me and take me out of the moment.
BUT, I also use my hunting buggy for getting the kids out at the property or at home and inevitably I find need for a USB charger, be it for the phone or a GoPro.
The instructions below describe how I recently added a USB charger to the hunting buggy.
Materials Needed
Step 1: Disconnect Power
Before you do any electrical work, put your cart in Tow and disconnect the negative side of the battery.
Step 2: Drill A Hole In the Console
Unscrew the plastic console and drill a 1″ hole.
Step 3: Install the USB into the Console
Insert the USB adapter into the console and screw on the back screw to secure.
Step 4: Attach Female Disconnects
Connect a female disconnect to a long length of red and black (or some other color) 14 gauge, automotive wire.
Step 5: Fish Wire Up to USB
Fish the newly attached female disconnects up to the console. I prefer to fish the wire through the existing wire protector and zip tie as needed. Attach the disconnects to the positive and negative side of the USB.
Step 6: Fish Wire To the Fuse Box
Assuming you have an integrated fuse box (which is a good idea if you don’t), fish the wire to the fuse box.
Step 7: Attach Spade Connectors
Cut the wire leaving you enough slack to reach the fuse box and attach spade connectors to the positive and negative end. I typically use some ring connectors and cut them to make spade connectors.
Step 8: Connect the Spade Connectors to the Fuse Box
Connect the negative wire to the fuse bus bar. Connect the positive space to an open fuse point. Insert a 10amp fuse.
Step 9: Reconnect Power
Reconnect the negative battery cable and move the cart from Tow to Run.
Step 10: Test It Out!
Turn on the cart and make sure you have power coming to the USB. Enjoy!
