DIY: Build A Tackle Storage System On A Surf Fishing Cart

On my previous, Trick Out An Aluminum Pull Cart for Fishing the Surf post, I received multiple questions on how I carry my tackle.

Typically, I carry my tackle in a sling bag, but I’ve been doing some reorganizing for an upcoming trip, and I wanted to build some rigging onto the cart to carry the two UV resistant Plano 3700 boxes I’m using.

This is the solution I came up with to secure the 3700 boxes to my cart.

Materials Needed

Step 1: Cut A Length of Shock Cord

Cut a 48″ of shock cord and singe the ends with a butane torch to ensure it doesn’t unravel.

Step 2: Attach the Wheel-side Cord

Using two overhand knots, attach the shock cord to the bottom of the tube closest to the wheel.

Step 3: Thread through the Shock Cord Eyelet

Pass the shock cord through the eyelet going in the direction of the wheel. This allows you to create an “X” to secure the tackle box.

Step 4: Attach the Front-side Cord

Attach the tag end of the cord with two overhand knots to the bottom of the front rod holder.

Step 5: Place Shock Cord over the Rod Holders

To tighten up the rigging, pass the shock cord over the tops of the rod holders.

Conclusion

This rigging, combined with the mods I made to my surf cart on the previous post, should allow you to carry two, two-tier 3700 boxes, plenty of tackle for any angler in the surf.
