There are multiple ways to attach your climbing sticks to the tree while saddle hunting. One of the easiest and lightest weight is to tie a daisy chain.
Materials Needed
- 1/8″ Amsteel (17ft)
- #10 Knitting Needle
Step 1: Measure 17’ of 1/4” Amsteel
Step 2: Make the First Loop
Fold the amsteel in half and measure a 2” loop. I’m using a Hawk Versa button so adjust the loop to your versa button so it is snug.
Step 3: Lock-in the First Loop
Using a FID, lock-in the first loop using a Brumel-lock. It looks like a figure-8 when done properly
Step 4: Measure the Minimum Tree Width
Save some money on amsteel, by measuring a length equal to your minimum anticipate tree circumference.
We will skip making loops on this section as it will not be used. For mine, I measure 30“ from the end loop.
Step 5: Lock-in Your Next Loop
At the end of the measure length, make another 2” loop using a Brunel-lock
Step 6: Build Out Your Loops
Continue creating 2” loops until you have a ~3” tag end.
Step 7: Bury the End
Bury the end by running your FID through the longer tag end and threading the.
Step 8: Taper the Bury
Unbraid the buried end, trim the threads at different links and pull tight to taper the end.
Step 9: Create a Storage System
Cut a 5“ length of 1/8” elastic cord. Place it under a piece of heat think, knot it and lock it in.
